22 THE JERSEY Eugene sinkings Eugene D. Doyle, 64, of North Bergen, who survived the sinking of two warships while with the Navy during World War II, will be buried Saturday. A. 9:30 a.m. Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Fatima Church, North Bergen.

Mr. Doyle, died yesterday at the North Hudson Hospital, Weehawken, after suffering an apparent attack at his home Tuesday evening. Interment will be in Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee. Born in Hoboken, Mr. Doyle resided most of his life in the North Hudson area.

Mr. Doyle enlisted in the U.S. Pilot warned just seconds before death United Press International Despite five separate reports of severe wind conditions, the Kennedy Airport tower did not relay the messages to an Eastern Airlines 727 jetliner until 13 seconds before it crashed June 24, witnesses testified at a public hearing yesterday. When the warning finally was given, according to testimony, Eastern Flight 66 from New Orleans already was caught in a vicious downdraft. The plane plunged, hit an approach light stanchion and exploded, killing 113 of the 124 persons aboard in the worst single-plane disaster in American aviation history, Arnold, the local controller at the time, told a National Transportation Safety Board, hearing yesterday that he did not pass on to his watch supervisor a pilot request that runways be changed to avoid the hazard.

"I didn't have time to," Arnold testified, adding that "the conditions did not warrant the change." He was referring to readings showing a groundwind speed of 15 knots about 6 minutes before the crash. When the pilot, Capt. John Bliss, was told of the groundwind reading, he shot back to the tower: "I don't care what you're indicating, I'm just telling you that there's such a wind shear on the final on that runway, you should change it to the northwest." Bliss had just landed his Flying Tiger line DC-8 and its cargo of 141 head of breeding cattle after being hit with a sudden change in wind direction. He said he nearly fell short of the runway. In addition to the Flying Tiger report, Arnold said, moments later Eastern Flight 902 had to abort its landing approach because of the wind and said that 15 minutes before the crash the departure controller told him to expect a strong wind shift.

He said he was unaware of two other warnings to the toware en one a phone call from the Weather Service a and the other a teletype message from the airport meteorologist.
