So, it will be Novak Djokovic against Daniil Medvedev in Sunday's men's singles final after Medvedev knocked out defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.
Earlier, Djokovic beat American Ben Shelton 6-3 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to move within one more win of a record-equalling 24th major title.
Before that match took place, Briton Joe Salisbury and American partner Rajeev Ram came from behind to secure a historic third US Open men's doubles title in a row.
We'll be back tomorrow for the women's final, which sees American Coco Gauff bid for her maiden Grand Slam triumph against incoming world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

'I played 12 out of 10'
Alcaraz 6-7 (3-7) 1-6 6-3 3-6 Medvedev
Here's what Daniil Medvedev had to say following his victory over Carlos Alcaraz:
"Amazing. Especially beating someone like Carlos. Before the match for sure I had a lot of doubts after losing easily to him twice this year.
"I said I needed to play 11 out of 10. I played 12 out of 10, except from the third set.
"He is honestly just really unbelievable. To beat him you need to be better than yourself and I managed to do it.
"The third set was not so bad. I lost one serve and I felt I wasn't so far away on his. I managed to do some amazing points in the fourth and he started to miss a bit which we don't usually see."
On facing Novak Djokovic in the final, he added: "The challenge is that I have to play a guy who won 23 grand slams. I only have one. When I beat him here [in 2021] I managed to play better than myself. There is no other way.
"The crowd was unbelievable today. Absolutely unbelievable, I mean it. We had some crazy points and there was love to both sides. Some Spanish guys started screaming at 5-3 [in the fourth] during the points which is not so nice but I guess they were desperate."

This is getting silly.

Huge cheers from the crowd. Another miss gives Alcaraz 0-30.

Over to you, Daniil Medvedev.
A place in the US Open final is a hold of serve away.
Alcaraz holds serve

It's all very simple for Carlos Alcaraz here.
He can't afford any mistakes as he looks to set up another shot at the Medvedev serve.
Job done. It's taking so much for Alcaraz to break down Medvedev in some of these exchanges but he finds a way here to keep his hopes alive.

And what a way for Medvedev to follow up that hard-earned break!
Cool as you like, an ace settles a love hold and the third seed is just one game away from securing his place in Sunday's final against Novak Djokovic.
It feels like a very long way back for Alcaraz from here.

If there is better entertainment in New York City on this Friday night then I'd love to hear where.
This really is scintillating stuff.
A captivating game ticked into a 14th minute, with the match now into a fourth hour.
The punters are certainly getting drama for their dollar.

Ha! Another ridiculous backhand from Medvedev, this time fizzed cross-court, once again brings Alcaraz back to deuce.
The pressure intensifies, but Alcaraz handles it like a champion, displaying his athleticism at the net to make a volley.
This must be starting to get annoying though! Medvedev is everywhere all at once and fires in another devastating backhand to take us to a fifth deuce.
