The service will be at the Church of the Holy Nativity in Weymouth at 10 a.m. Weekend crimes shake city's police CHELSEA Continued from Page B1 suspect was later released. A day earlier, police stumbled upon the most violent of the weekend's crimes: the murder of Maribel Caraballo, 32. At about 11 a.m. on Saturday, as officers were passing by 220 Broadway, they saw Caraballolying on the ground, stabbed in the neck and stomach, witnesses said.

Her terrified daughter was in a nearby store, where she had been taken by a store owner trying to shield her from the gruesome sight. The girl told police her stepfather was the attacker, and that he was still in the family's first-floor apartment. Officers found Adelmo Erazo lying in bed with a self-inflicted throat wound. Erazo was hospitalized in critical condition yesterday, authorities said.Mike Murphy, an assistant Suffolk district attorney, said yesterday that Erazo would be formally charged with murder when doctors say he has recovered enough to attend a court hearing. "It may happen in a hospital or he may be brought into court.

He will be charged," Murphy said. The weekend chaos began a day earlier, at 12:39 a.m. Saturday, when officers Gonzalez and Jose Torres. were nearly hit head-on by a man driving a Pontiac Grand Prix. Police identified the driver as Hector Diaz, 28, of Chelsea, and said he was drunk.

Gonzalez said Diaz plowed through the intersection of Second and Arlington streets at 80 miles per hour, swerving into the opposite lane to pass another car. Diaz then began speeding toward Gonzalez's police car, which was headed toward the intersection, the officer said. Diaz swerved again, said Gonzalez, then ran two stop signs and smashed into a vehicle at Second Street and Broadway, killing the passenger, 18-year-old Stacey Ann Yancey of Lynn. Police arrested Diaz at Beth rael Deaconess Medical Center, where he was rushed after the accident. His passenger, Sharmin Amador, 25, suffered a broken leg in the collision, and the other car's driver, Brenda Henry, 20, was also seriously injured.

The car accidents sparked outrage as well as grief: Chelsea council member Arthur Richards cited it as the latest proof that Chelsea has become overwhelmed with motor vehicle problems since the police chief closed a traffic division this year. "There's a lot of accidents occurring all over our city," Richards said. "The chief is doing a good job with the other crimes, but traffic is still a big problem." Richards said he is working with another council member to pass a resolution to bring back the department's traffic division..
