Summer Camps – Motherground (2024)

Waldorf Exchange Summer Program

Overview

Waldorf Exchange Summer Program 2024
6-15 of August | Ligatne, Latvia

We organize international camps that bring children together from all around the world to learn, create, and have a blast in a natural setting. For many parents, summer represents an opportunity for their children to engage in a different experience from the traditional school environment, allowing for personal growth within a well-structured framework.

Our approach is holistic, creating a space where children can thrive in a multicultural environment. Inspired by Waldorf education, our Summer Camps offer a healthy, wholesome, and international setting for children worldwide. Our philosophy emphasizes learning through play and fostering a love for discovery.

Each day is filled with a range of age-appropriate activities, engaging crafts, invigorating movement and songs, and immersive natural experiences.

We eagerly anticipate hosting approximately 80 children from Europe, America, Australia, and Asia, celebrating a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds.

The children are grouped into smaller, age-specific units of 10-15, with each group under the guidance of a trained Waldorf teacher and counsellor.

What

The Waldorf Exchange Summer Program, a collaboration between Adazi Free Waldorf School and Motherground International, offers a comprehensive, nature-inspired experience for children aged 8-16.
The camp features a dedicated Youth House providing separate activities for young adults, ensuring a tailored experience for all participants.

Children thrive in a multicultural environment, with English as the primary language of communication, supplemented by support in other languages as needed.

Days are filled with singing, play, handcrafts, art, nature walks, adventure, bike riding, and river rafting, allowing children ample time to wander, explore, create, and dream amidst the picturesque fields, forests, gardens, and rivers.

Where

The Camp is nestled in the beautiful Gauja National Park, just an hour’s drive east of Riga, the capital of Latvia, offering children the opportunity to revel in the majesty of nature, surrounded by lush forests and verdant meadows. The Gauja National Park boasts an array of natural wonders, including captivating rivers, ancient forests, and picturesque trails, providing an ideal setting for an immersive and enriching experience.

Accommodation is provided in the clean and spacious guest house “Ratnieki,” located near Ligatne town. The campsite is equipped with sports facilities and is enveloped by the stunning natural landscape of the park.

Each day, children can enjoy healthy, predominantly locally sourced breakfast, lunch, and dinner, thoughtfully prepared by our catering partners, alongside regular snacks.

Staff

Each group will be assigned a Teacher and a Counsellor, who will serve as the guardians of the small group, leading activities and taking full responsibility for the children throughout the Summer Program.

Every day is meticulously planned and tailored by the Camp teachers and counsellors, under the oversight of the WESP Principal.

The WESP program includes activities that involve the entire camp, such as Morning and Evening Circles, excursions outside the Campsite, as well as activities organized within the smaller and mixed-age groups.

Meet the Team

Meet the Team

The WESP Principal Liva Kirka brings extensive experience as a camp leader in both China and Europe.

The Counsellors are a dedicated team of Waldorf graduates, students, and enthusiasts hailing from diverse corners of the world.

The WESP Teachers are skilled Waldorf educators and professionals currently employed in Waldorf schools or organizations.

At WESP, we are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and delightful camp experience by assisting with various tasks.

We are committed to ensuring the well-being of every child at the campsite, where a qualified nurse will be available to address any health-related concerns. In the event of more serious issues, we will promptly transport the child to a nearby hospital after informing the parents.

At WESP, we ensure parents stay connected with their child’s experience through regular online updates featuring photo posts of daily activities. Additionally, we maintain a fully operational post office, allowing children to send and receive letters from home, fostering a sense of connection.
