I've created a custom box and recipe for Peppermint Toads based on the Chocolate Frog box from the Harry Potter movies. If you're interested in creating a Chocolate Frog box as well, you can view that instructable here.

Things You Will Need For the Box:

  1. Scissors
  2. Glue stick or permanent double sided tape
  3. Card stock or semi-gloss photo paper (if you want a slight shine to the box).
  4. A printer
  5. My Template (Download available below - or above on mobile)
  6. Hands

Things You Will Need For the Peppermint Toads:

  2. White Chocolate Chips
  3. Red Sugar
  4. Chocolate Frog Mold (Available Here)
  5. Cooking Pot

Once you have all of these things together, continue to the first step.

YOU MAY *NOT* USE THESE TEMPLATES FOR PROFIT

Step 1: Print & Cut Out the Template

Print the template, front and back on the same piece of paper.

To do this, print peppermint-toad-box-outside.jpg, then flip the print out over, feed it back into the printer, and print peppermint-toad-box-inside.jpg on the other side. You should end up with the template for the box on one side and the snowflake pattern on the other.

Cut out the template.

Use scissors to trim away all of the white space around the template.

Step 2: Fold & Crease the Template

Make creases and folds in the template.

Use the images above as a guide to crease and fold the template in the right places. The crease and fold lines are represented by red dashed lines in the photos.

Step 3: Glue or Tape the Box Together

Use a glue stick or double sided tape to shape the box.

Use the photos above as a guide to glue/tape the box together. The places where you need to glue/tape are outlined in yellow in the photos.

Step 4: Make the Peppermint Toads

Heat a small pot on your stove over low/medium heat.

On my stove, 3 was the right temperature. You don't want it to be too hot or the chocolate will clump up. You want low heat so it will melt to become smooth.

Melt the white chocolate chips.

Add the white chocolate chips to the pot (about a small handful per frog). use a rubber spatula to continually stir the chocolate chips until all of them have melted smoothly. Next, add a few dashes of red sugar and mix it into the melted white chocolate.

Coat the frog molds with white chocolate.

Remove the pot from the heat and put about a spoonful in each frog mold. You want just enough to thoroughly coat the mold, but not fill it. The white chocolate is only the outside layer. The inside will be the Hershey's Kisses. Once you have coated the mold, put it on a level surface in your freezer, rinse and dry the pot, and return it to heat on the stove.

Melt the candy cane mint Hershey's Kisses.

Add the Kisses to the pot (about 3 or 4 per frog). Again, stir continuously in order to prevent clumping and to get the chocolate as smooth as possible. Once all the kisses are melted, remove the pot from the heat.

Fill the frog molds with melted Kisses.

Get the mold from the freezer and fill each one with the melted Kisses. You can gently tap the mold on your counter to get the melted chocolate to sit even and reduce bubbles. If the melted Kisses in the pot start to harden during this process, replace the pot on the heat and stir until it's smooth again. When all of the molds are filled, put the mold in the freezer on a level surface again.

Wait 25 - 30 minutes.

Have a seat and check out my other instructables while you wait. :)

Put the Peppermint Toads in the boxes.

Take the mold out of the freezer and hold it upside down over a plate. Very carefully bend it like you would with an ice cube tray. The Peppermint Toads should fall out pretty easily. Now you just need to put each one in its own box and you're good to go. Optionally, you could put a small square of wax/baking paper under each toad, just in case you're worried about it melting onto the box.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Good job! You're all finished!

Congratulations! Enjoy your tasty treats and remember to recycle your paper scraps. If you liked this instructible, please give me your vote!
